It's only been 2 days and already God is doing amazing things.
I got to pray with a young man named "ah-sing." He used to be a manager in an upscale restaurant, was in the triads when he was young but later on got caught with possession of cocaine. The more I talk to these boys the more I feel like it was all in God's plan for them to be caught, and somehow through a series of events that I believe is orchestrated by God, ended up here on Dawn Island where they can hear the gospel.
The morning started with worship on the side of the mountain overlooking the ocean. I led some songs on my guitar and prayed with the boys. Later they told me, Darvin I got goosebumps when you were praying for us and I felt like this power come over me, is that what they call the holy spirit? That night I ended up sharing more about how I just dropped everything to come here because there was a voice in my heart that told me to come.
We talked about how only Jesus can give us true peace. Everyone was asking questions and I felt a real connection with all of these young and old men. As more time passes by, it becomes clearer why God wanted me here in Hong Kong. What's interesting is that I'm not even working with Chinese people, I'm working with people from Nepal, which I totally did not expect.
Later that night, a young Nepalese boy named "pak" told me of how he got arrested in Hong Kong with drugs. He is only 18 years old. He told me how he felt God speak to him in his heart, and he is glad that he is here on the island. I shared with him this song called "Freedom Reigns" and we prayed together that night.
I've never met anyone from Nepal before in my life, and now I have 20 Nepalese friends that I can call my brothers in Christ. One particular older staff member who takes care of the new boys who come in shared with me this verse from 1st Samuel.
He said to me, Darvin when you were sharing about how God looks at our heart, this verse came to mind, and I want to share it with you. I want to encourage you to keep going in your vision to build the orphanage and to rescue these children from the streets, don't give up! He says to me, God told me, to tell you, "keep going"
The verse he shared was this:
The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." 1st Samuel 16:7
