Dawn Island Kitchen

The kitchen on Dawn Island is run by the brothers. Former and recovering drug addicts and gang members, some who used to be in the food industry. Tonight’s dinner was eggs, pork, broccoli, and I got my bowl of rice. The view from our dinner table was spectacular.

Operation Dawn published a cookbook with the recipes of their kitchen, along with the stories of former drug addicts, and of how God lifted them up from a life of drug addiction, it’s amazing that I’m actually now tasting their food.

Over dinner, I met all the brothers. Everyone took care of each other. The ones who have been here longer take care of the new ones that came in.

Over dinner, I met a man named “ah-Keung.” He shared with me how he was addicted to heroin, and then cocaine. Every three hours he would need a fix. He said that he used to be a Buddhist as most Chinese people are in Hong Kong, and worship the idols. He says to me “I’ve been to hell and back, let me tell you, Jesus is the real deal, I’ve tried to quit drugs for more than 10 years and failed...until I found Jesus”
